Black
Magic/Witchcraft Origin - In Islam
Origin
Of Black Magic
Two angels came down and these Angels were called,
Harut and Marut. They came to the city of Babylon.
Q: Where is Babylon?
Ans: Iraq.
Q: How ancient is Babylon?
Ans: It is said to be the most
ancient city.
There was no city before the city of Babylon (To That Level). The first real
civilization was Babylon. So, we are going back to Pre-Ibrahim (A.S). We are going
back to the earliest of times, way before Moses (A.S), way before Solomon(A.S.). So, Allah is telling us, when the magic began?
Story:
Allah sent down two Angels with knowledge of how to access the jinn. The angels
were sent to the city of Babylon. The Angels were allowed to teach anybody who
wanted to study with them, The Art Of Magic. But the Angels also came with a
big disclaimer and that disclaimer was, the angels said, to anybody who came to
them “we are a test from Allah”. So, do not commit kufr by studying with us. They
learned from them. What they would use to cause division between a man and his
wife. So, they were learning things so that they could use it against someone. Give
me spell that would cause a divorce here, cause a fight there. That’s the spell
I wanted to learn. And they are never and were never ever able to cause any
harm to anyone except, by the Allah’s permission. What did Allah just reconfirm
here, magic, talisman, whatever they learned in and of itself had no value
except if Allah gave permission? And they learned what would harm them and not
benefit them. Now it’s interesting what they were learning was to try and harm
someone else. But Allah describes it as something that they would learn to harm
themselves. What’s the ultimate harm? To lost your Emaan (Faith). It produced
no benefit for them. They already knew that whoever purchases it. He will have
nothing for him at all of any portion in the Hereafter (He will have nothing of
it). They already knew that before they got into it. What a horrible thing.
they sold themselves for. So magic has zero benefit unlike alcohol. Allah says,
Alcohol has some benefit, alcohol has some benefit, it’s in the Quran but the
harm outweighs the benefit. As for black magic, there is no benefit. It’s only
evil. The angels told the men, whoever got this knowledge from them; they would
have no share of the next world. You can literally purchase this world at the
expense of the next and what an evil price they sold themselves for, if they
only understood. Those who studied it became the first magician. And all magic
that is existent today, some how goes back to Babylon and there are different Madhahib
of magic as well it’s not just one school of thought. Different arts and
different ways within magic but they all originate at Babylon.
“And
they followed [instead] what the devils had recited during the reign of Solomon.
It was not the Solomon who disbelieved. But the devils disbelieved, teaching people
magic and that which was revealed to the two Angels. That which was revealed to
the two Angels at Babylon, “Harut and Marut”. But the two Angels do not teach
anyone unless they say, “We are a trial, so do not disbelieve [by practicing magic].”
And [yet] they learn from them that by which they cause separation between a
man and his wife. But they do not harm anyone through it except by permission
of Allah. And the people learn what harms them and does not benefit them. Whoever
purchased the magic would not have in the hereafter any share. And wretched is
that for which they sold themselves, if they only knew.” [Surah Baqarah, 102]
History
– (From Babylon To Present)
The first place you can see up on the mountain is Babylon (Ancient Babylon) and you can see here a picture of some of the ancient Babylonian
relics. It is of course a particular area that is mentioned in the bible and is
mentioned in the Quran. The people of ancient Babylon were known for a
particular kind of magic. They were well known for their use of star gazing and
magic. So, there is a relation in the magic of ancient Babylon between star
gazing, astrology and magic. They used to worship the seven stars of Babylon. They
used to seek nearness to their god through three things particularly, through
the use of incense, the use of knots, and the use of sacrifice to other than
Allah.
Now we come to Persia, these were the people in ancient times who worshipped Allah alone. Their great military commander Rustam was one of the people who first introduced star gazing and astrology to the people of the Ancient Persia.
What
about magic in Islam?
Magic in Islam is represented by letters, numbers,
symbols and signs that relate to the zodiac. They added to the ancient magic of
Egypt, Babylon, and Persia. They added disgracing the Holy Quran, and attacking
the Quran. So, I want to explain to you magic in the light of an ayah in the Quran.
And that ayah in the Quran is the 102nd ayah in the Surah Baqarah as
mentioned above.
Five points, I want us to take out of this ayah.
- Magic
is something that can be learnt. It is not something that you are born with.
- Magic
is an act of disbelieve.
- Magic
causes real and significant harm. It does not just cause illusions. It doesn’t just
cause you to see something that’s not there
- There is no harm without the permission of Allah.
- There is no such thing as good magic or white magic.
As for magic in Sunnah, it is narrated that Hazrat Aisha (R.A)
said a spell was put on the Prophet (S.A.W.) until he imagined that he had done
a thing when he had not done it. One day, he made dua and he said, do you know
that Allah has shown me in what lies my cure. Two men came to me and one of
them sat at my head side and the other at my feet. One of them said to the
other what is ailing the man? He said, he is being afflicted by magic. The other
said who has bewitched him? He said, LabidIbn Al Assam. He said, with what he performed the magic? He said, with a
comb, the hair that is stuck to it and the skin of the pollen of male date
palm. He said where is it? And he said it is in the well of Darwan. The Prophet
(S.A.W.) went out to the well and he came back and he said to Aisha (RA), its
date palms are like the heads of devils. Aisha (R.A) said, did you take it out?
He said, no, Allah has healed me and I feared that it might bring evil upon the
people and then the well was filled in.
What
is the nature of the magician?
The nature of the magician is that a person cannot become a magician until they reach the highest forms of disbelief from which there is rarely any return. The devil lures them with promises of riches and fame begins by asking very little. Once the person is hooked the shaytaan does not let them out of the devil’s grip. They must perform the most evil acts in order to remain as a magician.
